Many states have some very great ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) Programs, paid for by the state that are absolutely amazing! We have made great strides with our son using these techniques. Our program in Arizona is call Habilitation M and its opperated by SARRC.

Hi James,

What state are you in? HOW do we help our son?
It feels that the 1/2 hour, once a month that DHS comes is too little and to far in between.
I'm looking for a way to help my son. Not just sit around and say "Our son has it too, he does A,B,C"
I want a way that I can:
1. Teach my son to talk, interact.
2. Teach my son to look at me, express feelings to me.

ALL these are fine for RECOGNIZING the signs of autism, but what do we do after?<br

How old is the kiddo you are working with? I think the games would really be dependent on age. It's a good thing that your student is a super good student and loves his homework! I think there is no such thing as too much reading and writing! There is no concept, or no subject our kids can't learn if they can read and write well!

Hi Sandra!<br

I am wondering if anybody has any recommendations on games that will help his fine motor skills and in the process won't bore him. I found that keeping him busy with work makes him happy. But he is so smart that he does his work in a few minutes leaving us with nothing to do for the next few hours of school.

hi, I am a new teacher assistant working one on one with a child that autism. In the long run waiting an extra 20 minutes for your child to complete something like putting on his own shirt will save you time later. The difficult thing is there are so many things that need to be taught that we easily slip into doing everything for someone that has autism just to save time in the short run.

I agree sometimes it is easier to do something for someone else than to teach them how to do it for themselves.
